This depends on your roof space and the size of the inverter. If you have sufficient roof space and additional capacity in the inverter you could increase the size of your system. Or you could add a second system to your roof.

Please note: At this time, the solar Feed-in Tariffs in each state have limits on the system size which to they apply. Increasing the size of an existing solar power system could affect your eligibility for a Feed-in Tariff.

It’s easy to check your solar power system at any time. The majority of inverters offer a built in display that gives you a live data feed of how much power your system is generating. Most systems will give you historical data showing how your system has been performing over time. If your solar inverter is wi-fi ready you can see your performance through web application on your mobile.

Ideally we want an un-shaded and north-facing part of the roof. Solar Panel systems are modular and can be arranged in a way that best suits the roof and sun angles.

The amount of roof space required depends on the size of the system.
eg. a small 1.5kW system requires 12m² of roof space.

How long a fully charged battery lasts depends on its power capacity and how much power you are drawing from it.
Using lower power consuming appliances (eg. a few lights, the TV and some music) may see your battery charge last for 2+ hours.
Things like electric heaters, air conditioning or a dishwasher are large power consumers that will quickly drain the battery in under 2 hours.

Batteries are a viable solution when your solar panels are not only meeting your power needs (meaning you are not buying from the grid), but also producing some excess unused power.
If this is the case, then then excess power can be stored by a battery.

If you do have excess solar that will sufficiently charge the battery, we will look at your night-time (with no sun / solar power) energy usage patterns.

Matching the right size battery to both your daytime (with sun) power usage and night time (with no sun) power usage patterns, and the power being generated by you solar system - will allow us to recommend the right battery for you.

We will also take into account your budget and return on investment goals.

Significant Electricity Bill saving happen when:
a) you regularly import and pay for power from the grid,
b) you have a battery that can be sufficiently charged (from your solar panels),
c) your battery can provide power when there is no power being supplied directly from your panels (meaning you don't have to pay for it)

The sun is already generating power at 7am on a summer morning. With a smart meter, the meter checks in every 15 minutes or half an hour, depending on how it is configured. It charges the battery if there is excess solar power.

Assume your battery has been fully charged by 3pm. Until sunset, you'll either use or export the energy you generate.

You should check if your power distributor limits how much you can export.

Life span is measured by cycles, which is the number of discharges and recharges the battery has. If you cycle one battery per day, you can expect to get 10,000 cycles out of it, which is roughly 27 years. Batteries life differs not only on usage patterns but cell chemistry.

If your power usage (at the time of mains blackout) is within the capacity of the battery, then it will automatically kick in when mains power loss occurs. While powering the house, the battery will also continue to be charged from any excess power from your the solar panels, while powering the house.

(Keep in mind that this will only work if your house is powered by a single phase.)

If your power usage is heavy and beyond the capabilities of the battery, it will automatically shut down. You can then adjust your power usage down, and easily restart the battery.

The ideal location for batteries are:
- outside
- undercover / sheltered (in a shed, garage or under eaves)
- close to the electricity switchboard
